The Universe of Hibiscus

We had the honor of featuring Seungeun Suh, known as “Hibiscus,” on the cover of our Issue 2, accompanied by an exclusive interview. Her work invites viewers into a dreamlike universe where traditional Korean hanji paper merges with watercolor and ink to evoke delicate worlds of fantasy and introspection. Since childhood, Hibiscus has layered translucent hues and subtle textures—not to depict defined figures, but to awaken emotion, memory, and a quiet sense of mystery. Her compositions, often centered on a solitary girl surrounded by floral, animal, and abstract elements, reveal profound reflections on vulnerability, growth, and the beauty found in life’s margins. Living and working in South Korea, Hibiscus blends classical technique with a poetic vision, creating artwork that resonates across cultures and sensibilities.
